Topic: Prepare them for the Future: Succession Planning in Facility Departments

We know that we have a large population of workers retiring. We know that it is hard to recruit their replacement because of lack of interest, lack of a qualified candidate pool, and/or lack of funds to pay competitively for the few candidates there are. We know that we have to do something. But what?  In this session, “Prepare Them for the Future,” Mark St. Onge and Jenna Elmer will walk you through their journey to create tomorrows workforce… today. By identifying future candidates in unlikely positions internally, creating apprenticeship programs, investing in leadership development, and taking recruiting risks, they will talk you through how their leadership team in Facilities Management at the University of Arizona is addressing Succession Planning.

Learning Objectives:

  • Through University of Arizona succession planning success stories, learn how to one team created career paths for employees.
  • Review industry standard terminology and metrics to help build a case within your organization for succession planning.
  • Identify ways that you can build tomorrow’s workforce today.
